Mahindra makes plans for China: Indian manufacturer Mahindra Reva is looking for a joint venture partner in order to produce electric vehicles in China, Bloomberg reports, citing Mahindra CEO Arvind Mathew. Whether there are already talks with potential partners was not confirmed.

VW to present Atlas? On October 27th, the carmaker will take the wraps off its new 7-seater for the U.S. market (we reported), which will also be available with a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. According to Automotive News, the vehicle will be named Atlas. Though that has yet to be confirmed.

Made in Costa Rica: U.S. niche manufacturer Venus Motors wants to produce EVs in Costa Rica. The company moved from Oregon to the Central American country to make cars for the local market “and beyond.” The Veep, a Jeep-like electric car, will be the first to roll off production lines there.

Australia electrifies lorries: SEA Automotive received over 500,000 Dollars from the local Australian government in Victoria. The money will be used to build electric drivetrains for trucks. Moreover, the drivetrains can be used to retrofit existing diesel-powered models.

Rinspeed-OasisRinspeed shows rolling oasis: Swiss company Rinspeed already announced a new EV concept for the CES 2017, showing first pictures. The two-seater Oasis features large glass and solar panels, while its interior is said to have a living room feel to it. The front windscreen doubles as screen for virtual reality, while a small patch of green allows for drivers to plant flowers or radishes. The future has wheels.

Detroit Electric goes to China: The U.S. manufacturer says it is talking with Chinese authorities about setting up shop there and that it found 120 potential buyers for its SP:01. In Hong Kong, the electric roadster can already be ordered. Detroit Electric wants to build a total of 950 units by the end of the year.

EPA rated: The U.S. agency has rated the all-electric range of the Toyota Prius Prime at 25 miles (around 40 km), while average fuel consumption is 133 mpg. The figures were released by Toyota in a press release and mean that fuel consumption of 2017 model is 26 percent better, than that of its predecessor.

VW’s new electric JV: Volkswagen is in talks with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile (JAC) to build and sell EV and e-mobility services for China together. The MoU predates a formal agreement that is to be signed within the next five months. The move comes as Beijing tightens emission rules.

Lobby prevents ambitious EV incentive: German industry associations VDA and IG Metall have influenced the country’s EV grant to be lower and weaker, Stern reports. Initial drafts saw 5,000 euros per electric car financed through a bonus-malus system. Every conventional car would have been taxed with 50 – 1,000 euros. Furthermore, both the ministry of the environment and economy had agreed to impose a mandatory quota for electric vehicles on all new registration – before lobbyism.

After the Roadster SP:01 there will be more electric models made by Detroit Electric. The Dutch firm’s CEO Albert Lam ensured the press, the company would not just follow Tesla. Yet, it plans a sedan EV in 2019, followed by an electric SUV. He did not mention an electric truck – yet.

Tuning the Leaf? Nissan’s head of EV in Europe, Gareth Dunsmore hinted at a faster Leaf similar to the Nismo RC concept car. While he claims it to be “a on-off prototype” he did mention its potential to point to “where the vehicle’s spirit could go.”

World’s cheapest electric SUV: Mahindra is working on what is to become the most affordable electric SUV on the global market. Obviously, it will be compact but no more details are known. The Indian firm plans to increasingly electrify its model range.

Innovation line: Three electric buses have taken to the streets in Hamburg. The Solaris vehicles join plug-in hybrid buses from Volvo that have been in operation since 2014. All buses are able to charge at the same charging terminals by Siemens via the supplier’s onboard equipment. Each of the two interoperable charging terminals has a capacity of 300 kW and two charging stations.

London Fire Brigade electrified: The firefighters of the British capital are en route to electrify their entire fleet by the end of the year. Already, 73 of 103 stations boast a EV charging station. 52 BMW i3 REx are to join the brigade that operates five PHEV at the frontline before the year’s end.

Indian EV arrives in England: Mahindra has delivered its first e20 to a British customer. The business woman bought the compact electric car online and will use it to see clients.

Lease a charger: EVFutureGrid is looking for people in Ontario, Canada willing to lease a home charger for 25 dollars a month. There are no upfront cost, installation is taken care of, and in exchange FleetCarma gathers driving and charging data.

Charging South Australia: Queensland got its first charger as Locality Planning Energy installs one of five planned Veefil fast-charging stations made by Tritium. Availability can be checked via app. The charger is located in Noosa.

Masterplan, Part 2 revealed: Elon Musk says the EV maker will also focus on creating solar roofs with integrated storage and that it is working on a Tesla Semi and “high passenger density urban transport,” both of which should be unveiled next year. The carmaker will also further develop its fully autonomous technology. Once in place, drivers can add their EV to a Tesla shared fleet that can be summoned by the touch of a button.

Audi-Audi-A7-Sportback-H-Tron-QuattroAudi focuses on H2: CEO Rupert Stadler confirmed that Audi will take over the lead in developing fuel cell technology within the VW Group. When Audi will release its first serial FCV remains unclear. The H-tron quattro concept had been previewed in January. Moreover, Rupert reemphasized the company’s goal that EVs should make up 25 percent of sales in ten years’ time.

Cadillac-CT6-PHEVCadillac launch: The new Cadillac CT6 has been launched ahead of schedule in Berlin and will be travelling to mainland Europe on September 5th. Autonomous Mahindra? Mahindra CEO Anand Mahindra told Autocar that the company plans to produce a range of autonomous electric cars by leveraging Mahindra’s many brands including Tech Mahindra. Further details remain unknown.

Opel Ampera-e sighting: Chevy Bolt-inspired Opel Ampera-e has been spotted for the first time since teaser shots were released in February. The mildly camouflaged EV was found testing in Germany.

Martin-Red Bull mashup: Aston Martin and Red Bull revealed their AM-RB 001 hypercar and granted exclusive access of the full-sized model to Autocar, who snagged some footage. An F1-inspired energy recovery system is harvesting kinetic energy from braking.

E-Van: LDV, newly backed by SAIC Maxus, revealed their EV80 panel van at the Commercial Vehicle show in Birmingham. The car is a fully electric version of the V80 panel van and is fitted with a battery with up to 75 kWh. It’s claimed to provide over 180 miles of range, though real-world estimates are more around 100 miles.

Ford expands: Ford plans to expand their alternative fuel vehicles line-up in China, saying they will “have hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery electrics.” The rollout will begin later this year with the launch of the hybridized Mondeo. Audi also plans to sell the A6L e-tron plug-in hybrid exclusively in China, followed by the Q7 e-tron in 2017.

Tesla production: At the AVERE E-Mobility conference in Amsterdam, Tesla Vice President of Business Development, Diarmuid O’Connell, confirmed that nearly 400,000 Model 3 have already been reserved. Pikes Peak race: Zero Motorcycles will be teaming up with Hollywood Electrics to enter the 100th Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Two Zero FXS motorcycles will be in the race, piloted by Jake Holden and Mark Miller. The race takes place on a 12.42-mile course, beginning at 9,390 feet, and includes 156 turns.

Radical climate action is needed in Scotland if the country wants to reach its CO2 reduction targets, a report from the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) found. The independent expert panel suggested that by 2030, 65 percent of all new cars and vans will need to be electric.

Volkswagen SUV with plug: According to Autocar, VW will present its new SUV concept at the Geneva Motorshow in March. The T-Cross is based on the VW Polo and is said to build on the carmaker’s MQB platform – just like the T-Roc study shown in 2014. The T-Cross is said to also be available as a plug-in hybrid.

Maserati hybrid update: The manufacturer has to keep an eye on its CO2 emissions record, which is why it will not only fit the Levante, Ghibli and Quattroporte with plug-in hybrid drivetrains (we reported), but alo the GranTurismo and GranCabrio. Only the Alfieri will keep its combustion engine.

Tesla misses sales target in China: The EV maker lowered sales expectations in the country to 5,000 units this year. 2015 it had hoped to sell at least 10,000 vehicles, but sold only 3,025 in the first nine months.

New BMW i at the IAA? More details on the BMW “Tesla Fighter” come from industry insider Georg Kacher. According to his sources, the model will be based on the long-wheelbase 5-series architecture and hit the market by 2018 as i5 or i7. Two electric motors and one combustion engine will provide a total power output of 400 kW. A concept car could be shown at this autumn’s Frankfurt motor show IAA.

Fellbach City Council goes electric: The German city now has eight electric cars in its nine-car fleet. Acciona-DakarFirst EV for Dakar Rally: ACCIONA will be the first team ever to compete in the 9,000 km rally in an all-electric car. The 80 kg electric engine has an output of 220 kW and the 140 kWh battery packs allow for a range of up to 350 km, which would be sufficient for most special stages, after which the batteries will be swapped. The rally starts on the 4th of January in Buenos Aires.
