Ampcontrol & PPK develop electric underground mining vehicles
A new collaboration between the two Australian manufacturing and technology companies Ampcontrol and PPK Mining Equipment is set to deliver a range of new battery-electric vehicle solutions for underground mining applications. The two will install Ampcontrol’s electric drive systems into PPK personnel carriers.
AUS: Tritium redesigns DC charger for mining operations
Australia’s high power charging specialist Tritium has teamed up with Miller Technologies to deliver a charging solution for mining operations. Miller just launched the Relay EV ready to operate underground and now runs the first project at Tesla supplier BHP in Queensland.
Tesla could buy nickel from Canada’s Giga Metal
“Tesla will give you a giant contract for a long period of time if you mine nickel efficiently and in an environmentally sensitive way,” CEO Elon Musk said in July. Now, it looks as if they may have found such a source, Reuters reports.
Electric vehicle for mining by Danfoss and Paus
The Finnish arm of Danish Danfoss has joined Paus Maschinenfabrik from Germany in their drive to electrify mine vehicles. The first fruit of their cooperation is the MinCa 5.1 that has gone serial and is available as either hybrid or all-electric vehicle.
Panasonic to cut all cobalt from EV batteries
Tesla’s Gigafactory partner Panasonic says it is developing cobalt-free batteries to become independent of the rare and expensive material in the near future. Meanwhile, Tesla released their ‘Conflict Minerals Report’ and also aims for further reductions in cobalt use.
Tesla to get Lithium from Kidman Resources
Australia is growing its lithium mining and Tesla is intent on exploiting that fact. Their latest contract with Kidman Resources will see them supply Tesla with battery material lithium hydroxide for their electric cars for 3 years initially.
