Bentley-Plug-in-HybridBentley’s plug-in hybrid: Rather sooner than expected, the Brits will present their first plug-in hybrid concept at the Beijing Auto Show. For now, the drivetrain is fitted into a Bentley Mulsanne but it will debut in the plug-in SUV in 2017. Bentley promises 50 kilometres (31 miles) electric range and 70% less carbon emissions.

MLC preview: Mercedes published a first picture of the Concept Coupé to be unveiled in Beijing later this month. The car is a predecessor of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz MLC SUV which is said to be planned as plug-in hybrid and diesel-electric hybrid model too.

Mugen’s Shinden San: Team Mugen will enter this year’s TT Zero Challenge on the Isle of Man with a brand new electric motorcycle. The Shinden San is lighter and with 100 kW and 220 Nm also stronger than the 2013 model. The team thus hopes to finally win the race in which it has finished second twice already.

e-QuandtNano flow cell: The Liechtenstein nanoFlowcell AG announced the premiere of its Quant limousine at this years Autosalon in Geneva. Their Quant-e research sportscar is equipped with the firm’s ‘nanoFlowcell drive’, is 5.25 metres long and sits four. It is designed to further study flow cells.

Driverless iMiEV: Researchers from the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (Smart) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) have converted the electric Mitsubishi into a computer controlled one. ‘SCOT’ (Shared Computer Operated Transport) will roam the roads of NUS campus for further research using LIDAR sensing technology. The conversion only took six months and costed 30,000 dollars.

Autonomous BYD: A*STAR’s Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) from Singapore and Chinese BYD plan to jointly develop EVs with autonomous vehicle sensors for the use in Singapore traffic. I2R will plant a drive-by-wire system in BYD’s electric cars as well as a management system to learn traffic environments and enable the cars to make intelligent judgements eventually.

Audi plans electric attack: The German carmaker is aiming to go head-to-head with Tesla with the launch of the all-electric Q8 in 2017. Internally known as Tesla-fighter, the Audi Q8 e-tron’s super batteries are said to give it a range of up to 700 km (about 430 mi). Furthermore, Audi plans to introduce PHEV versions of the A4, A6, A7, A8 as well as Q5, Q6, Q7 with a range of 65 km (40 mi) by 2016.

Super Segway: The Ryno one-wheeled electric motorbike looks as if it is straight from the future. It operates like a segway with the rider leaning forward to speed up and vice versa. While the Ryno is street-legal, it only goes as fast as 10 mph with a range of ten miles. We still think it looks like great fun!
