Bye Aerospace has announced an all-electric aircraft with room for up to seven passengers plus one or two pilots. The aircraft, called the eFlyer 800, is said to have already received deposits from customers, however, it remains to be seen when delivery will take place.

The French startup VoltAero launched the maiden flight of its first hybrid aircraft. The prototype, called Cassio 1, is based on a Cessna 337 Skymaster and comes equipped with two electric motors from Safran and a thrust propeller with combustion engine from Nissan.

Airbus, Safran and Daher have developed a business aircraft with hybrid-electric propulsion and scheduled the demo model’s maiden flight to take place in three years. This consortium is taking a different path than Ampaire with its hybrid aircraft though.

A few days after the maiden flight of its hybrid aircraft based on a Cessna 337, Ampaire announces its first order. Personal Airline Exchange (PAX) has ordered 50 of the converted parallel hybrid aircraft, with an option for 50 more.

The lithium-sulfur battery specialist Oxis Energy announced a number of new investors. These include the technology group Safran, with which Oxis has also signed an agreement to develop battery systems for commercial aircraft.

US helicopter manufacturer Bell Helicopter presented a vertical take-off and landing aircraft (VTOL) with hybrid-electric propulsion for five passengers at the CES 2019 under the name Bell Nexus. Bell has been cooperating with Uber for their planned flying cab since 2017.
