UK sets sights on ICE truck sales ban in 2040

The British government has presented a plan to decarbonise the transport sector. It includes the goal to stop the sale of all road vehicles with combustion engines by 2040. The end date for passenger cars was already set for 2030 – now there is also a roadmap for commercial vehicles.

UK invests £300 million in charging points

UK energy regulator Ofgem approved a £300 million investment (around 348 million euros) for over 200 low carbon projects to get Britain ready for more electric transport. This will see the instalment of 3550 EV chargers across the UK as part of a £40 billion investment in greener energy.

Newport orders 16 more Yutong electric buses

The Welsh port city of Newport is increasing its electric bus fleet from 16 to 32 vehicles. The operator Newport Transport has ordered 16 more electric buses from the Chinese manufacturer Yutong, which are to be delivered by the end of this year. The 16 existing electric buses are also from Yutong.

Wales to boost public charging by 2025

The Welsh Government has published its strategy to increase the number of electric car charging points in the region. The guiding vision states that “by 2025, all users of electric cars and vans in Wales are confident that they can access electric vehicle charging infrastructure when and where they need it.”

Britishvolt & AMTE planning UK battery plant

The start-ups Britishvolt and AMTE Power have provided details of their plans to build a battery cell factory for electric cars with a capacity of 30 to 35 GWh with the support of the British Government. The first stage is set for completion by 2023.

Aston Martin’s electric car outlet Lagonda has brought a preview of its first production model to Geneva. The “All-Terrain Concept” will be produced at the new St. Athan plant in Wales from 2022. Unfortunately, the manufacturer has not yet revealed any technical details in its otherwise imaginative description.

Swansea launching largest EV fleet in Wales

Swansea Council has taken delivery of 40 Partner Electric vans from Peugeot, making Swansea the local authority with the largest electric van fleet in Wales. The electric vehicles for council staff have been leased on a five-year contract.

Wales invests 2 million pounds to extend charging network

The Welsh government has announced their plan to invest 2 million pounds into the expansion of a charging network for electric vehicles in their borders. Currently there are 439 public charging ports available in Wales to service the approximately 2,500 BEVs and PHEVs.
