Sino-Japanese EV alliance: BAIC and Panasonic want to build a EV component factory in the Chinese city of Tianjin. BAIC will hold 54 percent of stakes, Panasonic the remaining 46%. The facility is part of BAIC’s plan to increase the production of electric and hybrid cars to 400,000 units per year by 2020.

Investing billions in electrification: Daimler announced that it will invest a total of 14.5bn euros in research and development. More than half has been earmarked for alternative drivetrains, like the new platform for electric cars and the expansion of its batter facility in Kamenz, Germany.
