Reducing inverter losses: Wolfspeed has introduced a new 900 V, 10 mΩ MOSFET, which is for 196 A of continuous drain current at a case temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET is said to allow for a reduction of EV drivetrain inverter losses of about 78 percent based on EPA mileage standards.

Connectivity as fuel saver: Engineers at the University of California Riverside (UCR) have developed a new online energy management system (EMS) for plug-in hybrids. Using real-time information about i.e. traffic or road conditions and an evolutionary algorithm (EA) to optimise fuel consumption, the latter can be reduced by more than 30 percent.
