Nissan starts U.S. production of its 2018 Leaf

After production kick-off in its home market in Japan earlier this year, the second-gen Nissan Leaf is now rolling off the lines in Smyrna, Tennessee, too. From January on, the model shall hit the stores across the States. Pricing starts at 29,990 dollars.

Since 2013, also the first generation of Nissan’s Leaf has been manufactured in Smyrna. All in all, 114,550 models have been sold in the States. The plants production capacity is around 640,000 vehicles per year.

As reported, the 2018 version of the Leaf has been presented in early September. Its battery holds 40 kWh and the much expected larger version with 60 kWh has been announced as well. Semi-autonomous features such as ProPilot Park have been included, too. In October, Nissan celebrated the car’s Europe debut in Oslo, announcing a launch edition called „2.ZERO Edition“.
