For the 80th anniversary of the Wolfsburg company, CEO Herbert Diess decided to donate 12 mobile charging stations to the city of Wolfsburg. The stations are grid independent and offer green energy, charging at capacities up to 200kWh.

The company stressed that the bond with the city is close and that they hope to continue a fruitful relationship. Diess said: “Wolfsburg and the people who live here need a successful Volkswagen. This means one thing: We have to become more productive, open and faster. In return, Volkswagen needs to have a livable, progressive Wolfsburg, a city that is willing to change.”

The stations will be free to use for Wolfsburg residents for the pilot testing period, starting in March 2019. The stations also allow for simultaneous charging of up to 4 vehicles or e-bikes, with the eventual goal of turning Wolfsburg into a “smart city” pilot project, that other cities will follow in future.
