The high power charging network Ionity will cooperate with the Spanish Compañía Española de Petróleos to outfit their petrol stations with up to 100 HPC charging points in Spain and Portugal. The first chargers will go into operation by the start of 2019.

The Spanish gas station operator will identify relevant locations to install the EV charging stations, as well as providing energy from 100% renewable sources for them. Cepsa, who runs an extensive network of around 1,800 service stations in Spain and Portugal, will be the first company in Spain to offer supercharger services.

The charging stations themselves will use the CCS format, and have capacities up to 350 kW. Héctor Perea, Cepsa’s Director of Strategy and Corporate Development, says that the agreement “reflects the company’s commitment to providing solutions in the field of mobility, covering all energy needs and offering a fast, quality service, assured by IONITY.”
