Volkswagen was to make 3% of sales with EVs in 2018, estimated Martin Winterkorn in 2010 but now we know, they failed. According to VW, it delivered 6.24 million vehicles in 2018, of which only around 50,000 were electric cars and plug-in hybrids so they did not even manage to crack the 1% mark. Much room for improvement.

The MEB platform, which VW has working diligently on, is expected to drop 27 electric vehicle models under the various VW brands by 2022. Volkswagen is a little late to the party when it comes to electrification, but we’ll see just how well they manage to take the curve.
