Tesla presents the Model Y / Deliveries from fall 2020

Tesla has unveiled the SUV variant of the Model 3 in Hawthorne, California. If the Model 3 looks like a small Model S, the Model Y can be likened to a shrunken Model X. More surprising than design and technical data is that the Model Y is optionally offered as a 7-seater.

The exterior of the Tesla Model Y doesn’t really have any surprises: That the electric car would be based on the chassis of the Model 3 is well known. This can clearly be seen in the SUV’s design. Just like the Model 3, the Model Y is equipped with a panorama glass roof. Perhaps the biggest innovation is that the relatively compact SUV, whose Tesla cW value is 0.23, will be optionally available with seven seats.

Tesla is also pursuing a similar approach to their Model 3 when introducing the model variants of the Model Y. Starting in autumn 2020, the higher-priced versions will be delivered before the basic version follows in spring.

As to the technical data and prices of the Model Y; According to Tesla, the basic version “Standard Range” will cost 39,000 US dollars (net price). The base price is thus $4,000 higher than that of Model 3. The range after the relatively realistic EPA evaluation is expected to be 230 miles (370 kilometers). Tesla mentions 120 mph (193 km/h) as the top speed for the entry-level version, the acceleration from 0 to 60 mph can be done in 5.9 seconds.

The “Long Range” version of the Model Y, which can reach speeds of up to 130 mph (209 km/h), will achieve a range of 300 miles (483 km), accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and cost 47,000 US dollars.

And of course there will also be a Model Y with all-wheel drive. The twin engine version starts at 51,000 dollars, offers a top speed of 135 mph (217 km/h), acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and an estimated EPA range of 280 miles (451 km). The latter also applies to the $60,000 performance version of the all-wheel-drive Model Y, which is up to 150 mph (241 km/h) fast and should sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk expects to sell more Model Y units than Model 3, Model S and Model X combined.

The online configurator for the Tesla Model Y is now live. In the USA, Tesla requires a deposit of $2.500 and lists all variants except the basic model “Standard Range”. The “Long Range” version of the rear-wheel drive is listed at 47,000 dollars, the twin-engine four-wheel drive version with “Longe Range” battery costs 51,000 dollars (with performance package: $60,000).

Boringly same design with same ridiculous iPad "cockpit". Should let Boring company overtake Tesla.
