EV charging platform provider Virta, charge point provider Efacec, the Departmental Energy association of Yonne (SDEY) and Hubject are preparing a plug and charge pilot project set to start in 2020 in France.

SDEY will install six Plug & Charge compatible charging stations by Efacec in the department of Yonne, France to start with. Hubject will provide the Plug&Charge ecosystem according to the ISO 15118 standard and also connect the charging stations to its Intercharge network via Virta platform.

Virta claims this will be the first charging platform to implement Plug&Charge technology in the French market.

Plug&Charge relies on the ISO 15118 standard for communication between electric vehicles and the grid using digital certificates. Once the electric car is plugged in, the charger receives encrypted data from the vehicle and the payment processing is handled in the background.
