China: GAC debuts long-range e-SUV Aion LX
GAC New Energy Automobile, GAC’s electrified offshoot, has launched the second model of its Aion EV series in China. The new vehicle, the Aion LX, is a purely electric SUV with CATL cells and a range of up to 650 kilometres (NEDC).
GAC’s new electric car follows the Aion S electric sedan, that was launched his spring and positioned to rival Tesla.
The new electric SUV Aion LX, however, features a 93 kWh battery pack (NCM 811) for said range of 650 km (404 miles). The all-wheel-drive delivers 300 kW, enough to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds. There is also the option of a two-wheel-drive with an electric motor that is good for 135kW.
On top, the new Aion LX EV harnesses solar power to power interior features and offers Level 3 autonomous driving assistance.
The Aion LX is 4,786mm long, 1,935mm wide and 1,685mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,920mm, thus bringing the medium-sized SUV comparatively close to the NIO ES6 or the BYD Tang EV600.
GAC says several variants are offered at prices starting at around 250,000 yuan (just under 32,000 euros). The electric car is exclusive to China.
