The Škoda Citigo-e iV can no longer be ordered in Great Britain. Around 400 units of the Czech-built fully-electric city car made for the UK market have now sold out.

Škoda’s first all-electric vehicle was put up for order in the UK in January. The plug-in hybrid hit UK showrooms later the same month. By mid-March, all had been sold.

Skoda is now unable to confirm further production of the Citigo-e iV. On its UK website, the Czech subsidiary of Volkswagen now says that orders are “closed for the Citigo for the foreseeable future.”

A spokesperson from the Czech carmaker told UK auto publications that “The Citigo-e iV has sold exceptionally well in the UK, with pretty much all our allocation being sold out as it arrived in showrooms. As our first fully-electric model, we had lofty expectations for it, but demand just outstripped supply.”

On 16 March, production was suspended in the plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, where the Citigo-e iV is manufactured alongside its Seat Mii Electric and Volkswagen e-Up! siblings due to Coronavirus workplace restrictions. A date for its re-opening has yet to be confirmed.

“Normally we would request with the factory for further production, but we haven’t been able to have this discussion and confirm this with the plant shutdowns. We won’t be able to do this until business resumes,” the Škoda spokesperson explained.

At the time of publication, the sister models VW e-Up and Seat Mii Electric could still be ordered in the UK.

In addition to its first purely electric SUV the Škoda Enyaq, the Czech Volkswagen subsidiary was planning – before Coronavirus restrictions – to launch at least ten more electrified models under the umbrella of their sub-brand Škoda iV by the end of 2022. By 2025, Škoda expected a sales share of 25 per cent of purely electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. It remains to be seen how the current stops in production will affect these timelines
