Next electric VW ID.4 look leaked from China
Chinese media have unveiled first pictures of the serial version of the VW ID.4. The source of the images seems serious enough for us to break it to you – the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
In China, it is common practice for car manufacturers to submit drawings and uncensored photos of their upcoming models to the ministry. That these images then end up in the public eye in advance also happens from time to time, last with the Chevrolet Menlo EV .
At first glance, the ID.4 holds few surprises, considering the many prototypes and show cars that have already been photographed during test drives. The front has many elements of the ID.3 electric vehicle, such as the headlights’ basic shape and the logo clasp that connects both lights. The rear shows a similar design, which is reminiscent of existing SUV models from the Wolfsburg company.
On the photos you can see two different versions: The white vehicles are identified on the boot lid as ID.4 Crozz, the grey model as ID.4 X. The ID.4 X has slightly more sporty air intakes at the front and other rims. But it remains to be seen whether the technology also differs: The ID.4 Crozz could only have the 150 kW rear drive from the ID.3, the ID.4 X could also have the smaller 75 kW motor at the front to make it a four-wheeler, which the ‘X’ suggests. And with a system output of 225 kW, it would be the most powerful ID. model from VW to date. However, this is unconfirmed.

Of interest in the pictures is also the different trims, one is called 1st and one Pro. Sometimes the exterior mirrors are painted in car colour, sometimes in grey. There are also different roof options, which is sometimes dark and sometimes painted white. On the photos, you can see a total of six different rims, but all of them are closed to a certain extent to improve the aerodynamics.
Pictures of the interior have not yet been published, so it is impossible to make a statement about the inside of the electric cars and space conditions. But since the smaller ID.3 comes with a touch screen ex-works, it is likely to be the same for the ID.4. A photograph of the windscreen also shows that the ID.4 will also be available with a head-up display, but probably only in the higher-end versions – which is no surprise, given the ID.3 option.
Both the ID.4 Crozz and the X have a wheelbase of 2.765 metres according to Chinese media reports, but because of the different bumpers, the X is said to be minimally longer than the Crozz (4.61 to 4.59 metres). Also, the height differs by 11 millimetres, which Chinese media attributes to different chassis settings.
It is still open when Volkswagen will officially present the serial ID.4. On the fringes of an online conference to mark the launch of ID.3, we heard that the premiere of the next electric VW would take place soon.
