Audi announces updates for UK version e-tron cars

Audi UK announces a series of revisions will be hitting their e-tron and e-tron Sportback electric SUV models. These include a new trim structure and more technology features with prices starting from £59,900.

Specifically, the upgrades will affect the E-Tron 50 Quattro and 55 Quattro models, and add two new trim variants, alongside updating other aspects. Among them is Audi’s new UK charging service to help facilitate public charging for e-tron owners. They will issue an RFID payment card which will be accepted by a network of 18 charging suppliers across the UK and mainland Europe and includes two tariff options. The usage will then be bundled in a single monthly bill. The idea here is that Audi has taken several steps to help streamline the process, thus lowering barriers to EV adoption. Regarding this, the German brand also simplified the ordering process online, now including a higher degree of customization with the new variant options.

Staying with options – there will be a new range-topping ‘Vorsprung’ specification set, including the latest digital matrix LED lighting technology. The digital cabin elements were also upgraded to the new third-generation modular infotainment platform (MIB 3). It now includes speech recognition software in the cloud. The tech upgrade will offer ten times more processing power than its predecessor, according to Audi, also making the navigation more “intelligent”. The system can, for example, “learn” from a driver’s previous route preferences and also up-to-date traffic information into account. Routes are calculated online on the servers of the service provider HERE.

The other variant addition is called the ‘Black Edition’ and mostly contains cosmetic updates, such as black finishing and privacy glass.

Getting back to the tech trim, Audi claims ranges for the e-tron SUV 50 quattro form of up to 195 miles, or 247 miles with a larger battery as the 55 Quattro, both WLTP. Each of these options can now be combined with a choice of five trim lines – Technik, Sport, S line and the new additions Black Edition and Vorsprung as mentioned above.

UK fleet and retail customers who place an order for an e-tron model before the year’s end will receive a free 12-month subscription to the e-tron Charging Service and an account credit equivalent to 1,000 miles-worth of electricity free of charge.
