Kia offers EV6 customers two Ionity packages

Kia will offer buyers of the new EV6 reduced prices at its HPC stations in Europe as one of the shareholders of the joint venture Ionity. The brand has just announced that two pricing packages will be offered.

The ‘Access’ package, which will be available later this year, costs 4.50 euros per month and allows charging at Ionity pillars for 52 cents per kilowatt-hour (instead of the regular 79 cents). The ‘Power’ package, already available from May, is aimed at customers who want to use Ionity’s public fast-charging stations more frequently. With a monthly basic fee of 13 euros, they can purchase charging power from Ionity starting at 29 cents per kWh.

With these terms, Kia’s Ionity offer is slightly cheaper than the equivalent tariffs offered by German carmakers. With BMW Charging (irrespective of the tariff), 13 euros are due for the ‘Ionity Plus’ package, the kilowatt-hour then costs 0.35 euros. With the iX3, iX and i4, the Ionity Plus package is already included for one year.

The tariff for Volkswagen’s charging service is somewhat more complicated. WeCharge offers buyers of “fast-charging-capable ID. models” (meaning from 100 kW charging capacity, i.e. not the basic models with 50 kW) the ‘WeCharge Go’ tariff without a basic fee (other models: 7.49 euros per month) until the purchase date of 30 June 2022 – with Ionity, the kilowatt-hour then costs 55 cents. In the WeCharge Plus tariff, the fee drops to 30 cents, but the monthly costs are 9.99 euros (fast-charging models) or 17.49 euros (other models).

The recently introduced EV6 is based on the E-GMP from the parent company Hyundai. With 800-volt technology, the EV6 is said to be able to charge from ten to 80 per cent charge level in 18 minutes. At low charge levels, when charging power is at its highest, it is said to be able to recharge power for 100 kilometres in less than 4a.5 minutes according to WLTP. With its 77.4 kWh battery, the EV6 (rear-wheel drive) has a range of 510 kilometres. The base model has a 58 kWh battery.

All orderers of the new EV6 will receive a free one-year subscription to the Power Package for Ionity until the end of 2022. In selected countries, those who reserve the base model of the EV6 or the top-of-the-line GT model in April will also receive a free one-year subscription to the Kia Charge charging service and a voucher. The same offer applies to all orders of the EV6 GT until the end of 2022.
