Next.e.GO Mobile to build plant in Bulgaria

The German electric car manufacturer Next.e.GO Mobile has now officially confirmed that it has signed an agreement in Bulgaria to build a new microfactory in Lowetsch. There had already been a rumour to this effect a few days ago.

At that time, Bulgaria’s Managing Minister of Economy Kiril Petkov said that the Aachen-based manufacturer was considering an investment of 140 million euros in a factory in Bulgaria.

Both the Lowetsch location and the 1,000 jobs to be created in the region have now been confirmed by the company. The sum of 140 million euros mentioned by Minister Petkov is also true, according to the Next.e.GO Mobile statement. The micro-factory with “revolutionary production technology” is to build up to 30,000 vehicles per year from 2024. The SOP (Start of Production) is planned for the first quarter of 2024.

“This strategic agreement is another key milestone in Next.e.GO Mobile’s decentralized growth, leveraging our game-changing micro factory and product architecture in transforming the global urban mobility,” says Chairman of the Board Ali Vezvaei. “Our technology, the unique production and the entire eco-system that we create set us apart and expand our ecological and economic contribution far beyond our factories into countries and local communities.”

The plant in Lowetsch is to be a “cyber-physical twin of the factory in Aachen”. Among other things, the next generation of the e.GO Life, which the company plans to introduce in 2022, could then be built there. An e.GO Life Cross is also planned. The company had presented an e.GO Life Concept Cross in spring 2020, when they were apparently already strapped for cash.

At the beginning of April 2020, e.GO Mobile had filed for protective shield proceedings and was later taken over by Dutch investor ND Industrial – which then led to the re-establishment of Next.e.GO Mobile SE. Under the new owner, the company not only wants to continue building at the Aachen site, but also to expand – not only to Bulgaria, but also to Mexico and Greece.
