Osprey to install fast-chargers at UK retail sites for Ediston

British charge point operator Osprey Charging, formerly Engenie, has announced a partnership with real estate company, Ediston. The companies want to install rapid EV charging across Edistons’ portfolio of retail warehouse sites in the UK. Clients include brands such as Aldi, The Food Warehouse and Costa.

To start with, Ediston has selected ten sites. Each will host up to six high powered chargers installed by Osprey Charging. The company will use Tritium 75kW chargers and said the model was a blueprint for charging infrastructure at retail parks across the country.

The first site is a hub at Haddington Retail Park, East Lothian, currently under construction. Osprey expects other sites to go into construction throughout 2022 and that further charging locations will be added, in line with Ediston’s anticipated acquisition of retail parks.

Graham Lind, Head of Retail Warehouse Asset Management at Ediston, said: “On-site EV charging at retail parks will soon become an essential offering, and customers will expect to be able to charge their vehicles wherever they shop, and our tenants will expect us to provide the infrastructure which enables them to do so.”

The UK Government has reportedly banned sales of fossil-fuel-powered vehicles from 2030 and in another regulation requires all new buildings to have EV charging points installed starting this year. This also includes commercial sites such as supermarkets.

Osprey will cover all costs associated with installing and servicing the rapid charging points while sharing the profits, minimising financial risk, so the company.

This announcement is also Osprey’s latest deal in the retail park sector, following previous announcements with Brookhouse Group, Reef, M7, Northumberland Estates and more due to open this year. The company added this was also in support of Osprey’s plans to roll out 150 high powered EV charging hubs by 2024 as part of a £75 million investment programme.
