CityFreighter and PEM Motion enter strategic partnership

California-based startup CityFreighter has partnered with PEM Motion to help it expand operations in the U.S. and Europe. CityFreighter, a developer of modular electric delivery vehicles for the “last mile,” plans to launch an all-electric van in the third quarter of 2023.

The van announced for 2023 is the vehicle called CF1. CityFreighter announced the electric transporter back in late 2018. With a lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 86 kWh, the model is expected to have a range of 240 kilometres. CityFrighter aims to become profitable in 2024, the company wrote in a press release. It is targeting 30,000 vehicles by 2027.

“PEM Motion is well-known for its engineering talent and business acumen in electric-vehicle manufacturing and innovation,” says CityFreighter founder and president Michael Schoening. “They are the right partner for us as we create a new customer-centric model to crack the last-mile delivery market.”

CityFreighter reportedly unveiled a beta version of the CF1 model in August 2021 at the Advanced Clean Technology Expo in Long Beach, Calif. According to the statement, the CF1 features a low-floor skateboard chassis with a “best-in-class payload” and “user-centric workplace concept.”
