Electrify America to install chargers at Ikea locations

Volkswagen’s US subsidiary Electrify America will install more than 200 high-power charging stations at Ikea locations in the US. The fast chargers, with outputs ranging from 150 kW to 350 kW, will be set up at more than 25 Ikea shops in 18 US states and will be available for public use.

In addition, Ikea’s own electric vehicles will be charged at the stations, according to communications from the two companies. The first locations are expected to be operational by the end of 2022. By the end of 2023, the construction is to be completed.

However, this means that only about half of Ikea’s shops in the US will have an Electrify America charging park. According to its own data, the Swedish furniture chain has 52 stores in the US. With 225 charging stations at 25 shops, each location will have an average of nine charging points.

Since opening its first charging station in May 2018, Electrify America has added more than 3,500 charging points at 800 locations. The goal is to have 10,000 charging stations at 1,800 locations across the United States and Canada by 2026.

“We are excited to establish both public and commercial fleet charging stations with IKEA – a brand that shares our goal of a more sustainable future,” said Giovanni Palazzo, president and CEO of Electrify America. “Through this collaboration, Electrify America, Electrify Commercial and IKEA U.S. are leading a path forward for customers and businesses toward zero-emission transportation.”
