Possible battery problem with 10,000 VW ID.3 and ID.4

VW is asking the owners of around 10,000 ID.3 and ID.4 electric cars worldwide to visit the workshops. Battery cells could show an increased self-discharge due to a manufacturing defect.

The problem was first reported by EV rental company Nextmove, citing a message from the manufacturer to its dealer network. In the meantime, VW has confirmed the “service measure” to us.

Specifically, it is about 10,130 VW ID.3 and ID.4 with high-voltage modules manufactured in 2020. The VW dealers will inform owners about the service measure and ask them to visit the workshop, where any defective battery modules will be replaced. These vehicles were identified based on diagnostic data generated during workshop visits.

Owners of the electric models can also ask their Volkswagen partner whether their vehicle is affected and, if necessary, make an appointment right away. The inspection and repair will take about one to two working days, as VW explains to electrive.com. Substitute mobility will be provided, alternatively a pick-up and delivery service will also be offered.
