Change in management at Mercedes Trucks
Rainer Müller-Finkeldei will take over responsibility for product development at Mercedes-Benz Trucks in May 2023. He will succeed Uwe Baake, who has contributed to product developments such as the GenH2 truck and the Mercedes-Benz eActros and is retiring as planned at the end of April.
In his new position, Müller-Finkeldei will head the Mercedes-Benz Trucks development divisions in Germany, Brazil and Turkey. He takes up the position at a time when Daimler Truck is pursuing the ambition of only offering new vehicles that are CO2-neutral in operation (“tank-to-wheel”) in Europe, Japan and North America by 2039. As you know, Mercedes-Benz Truck is part of the Daimler Truck division. The long-term goal is CO2-neutral transport on the roads by 2050.
Rainer Müller-Finkeldei is a home-grown employee of the commercial vehicle manufacturer. He joined the Daimler Group in 1995 and after holding various positions in research and development in the passenger car and van sectors, he moved to the Truck Division in 2004 and became Executive Assistant to the Vice President Truck Product Creation. This was followed by other senior positions in product development within the Daimler Group. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President Product Engineering and Technology at Daimler Truck North America.

Uwe Baake, currently Head of Mercedes-Benz Truck Product Development, will retire at the end of April 2023. He too joined what was then Daimler-Benz AG in 1995. After two positions at a subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Brazil, he acted as Head of Bus Development in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, from 2003. In 2007, he returned to Germany and became Head of CAE Daimler Truck, responsible for Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) for trucks, buses and vans worldwide. In 2013, he assumed his current position as Head of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Product Engineering.
In this role, he successfully expanded the global research and development centres in Wörth (Germany), Iracemápolis (Brazil), Aksaray (Turkey) and Beijing (China) and founded the new Mercedes-Benz Trucks Design Center, according to an accompanying statement. Karin Rådström thanks Baake “on behalf of the entire Daimler Truck Board of Management for his extraordinary commitment and great achievements over the past 28 years”. With strategic vision and perseverance, he had paved the way for new technologies, especially in the field of low- and zero-emission drive technologies and global platform strategies.
