Lexus has presented its smallest model to date. Developed primarily for Europe, the new LBX is the new entry-level model in the Toyota brand’s SUV range and is powered by the new generation full hybrid system with an output of 100 kW/36 hp.

Production of the new Lexus LBX is scheduled to start at the end of 2023. The sales launch in Europe and selected global markets is scheduled to follow in early 2024. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 9.2 seconds. Prices have not yet been announced at this stage

What exactly this all-electric driving range is, was not mentioned, however. The manufacturer does add that “thanks to the hybrid system upgrades, all-electric EV driving can be enjoyed at higher speeds and over longer distances, maximising the LBX’s efficiency,” implying that the hybrid system will not only jump into assistance at lower speeds, as well as stating that a new redesigned cooling system which helps prolong battery life and performance.

What is clear about the vehicle is that Lexus is putting effort into driver experience and comfort. “Our aim was to challenge the conventional concept of a luxury car. We have thoroughly pursued a driving experience that enables a natural dialogue between the driver and their vehicle and a design that has a refined presence,” said Chief Engineer Kunihiko Endoh. Next to a series of comfort upgrades, such as noise and vibration insulation efforts, the vehicle also features a slew of entertainment and multimedia systems.

The LBX will be available in four “atmospheres”, or variants, in addition to the base grade. “Elegant and Relax which focus on a refined feel, and Emotion and Cool which have a sportier, more dynamic character. Each has been designed with a different type of customer in mind,” the company writes.
