Polestar increases deliveries by 36 per cent

Polestar delivered 15,800 electric cars in the second quarter, 36 per cent more than in the same period last year. However, a further increase is necessary in the second half of the year in order to reach the target set for 2023.

According to Polestar, the Q2 result with roughly 15,800 vehicles was made possible primarily by a strong June: in the last month of the second quarter, deliveries were 73 per cent higher than in June 2022. With the June closing spurt, the Swedish-Chinese brand also achieved its strongest Q2 result to date.

Polestar has only been reporting its deliveries on a quarterly basis since its IPO, previously this was only the case at irregular intervals. Therefore, reliable data has only been available since Q3 2022. With the statement on the growth of 36 per cent, however, it can be calculated that there must have been around 1,600 vehicles in Q2 2022.

In the entire first half of 2023, Polestar achieved around 27,900 vehicle deliveries – roughly the same number as in the full year 2021 with 29,000 vehicles at the time. For 2023 as a whole, the electric car brand is sticking to its target of 60,000 to 70,000 vehicles, so deliveries in the second half of the year must be slightly higher than the 27,900 units.

Regarding Polestar deliveries, it should be noted that it is still virtually only one model – the Polestar 2 mid-size sedan. The e-sedan recently received a facelift with some changes to the e-drive, deliveries are scheduled to start in the second half of the year – the 27,900 vehicles are the pre-facelift model. The large Polestar 3 e-SUV was unveiled in 2022, but there is a software-related delay, so production is now not scheduled to start until Q1 2024. The Polestar 4, on a different platform, is scheduled to go into production in late 2023.

“As expected, deliveries have continued to gather pace from month to month, resulting in a record second quarter,” says Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath. “I’m confident this trend will continue into the seasonally stronger second half of the year, which will also see the first deliveries of our significantly upgraded Polestar 2, with up to 22% longer range.” The delivery trend is also expected to be helped by a larger market presence, with Polestar planning to open more than 20 new Polestar Spaces in the coming months.

how do they compete in the USS without the $7,500 tax incentive? Where can owners go for service?
