Schiphol Airport to open a huge EV rental location in 2024
On a total surface area of 40,000 m2, five buildings at Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands are being transformed into a place where car rental companies can maintain, repair and wash their vehicles.
On top of the buildings will be one large roof with 17,000 m2 of solar panels, which will provide the same amount of power as it would take to cover the yearly consumption of 1000 households, according to the airport authority. The electric vehicle rental location is designed to enable more than 300 electric cars to be charged at the same time.
Construction is expected to be complete at the end of 2024.
Towards the end of last year Royal Schiphol Group announced that it plans to install 10,000 charging stations for electric vehicles at its airports by 2030. The Dutch airport operator has already completed the tenders awarding the project to local companies Ecotap and FIMIH.
