Hertz orders up to 175,000 EVs from General Motors

Car rental company Hertz has placed its next major order for electric vehicles: Hertz plans to order up to 175,000 electric vehicles from General Motors by 2027. The first vehicles are to join the Hertz fleet in 2023, however initially, it will not include any of the new Ultium models.

Sixt targets 90% share of low-emission vehicles by 2030

Rental car company Sixt is intent on decarbonisation. The Management Board approved a sustainability programme to increase the share of bookable electric and hybrid cars in Europe. By the end of 2030, up to 90 per cent of the rental fleet could be electric; however, not quite.

US car subscription service Autonomy orders 22,790 BEVs

The US electric car subscription service Autonomy has ordered 22,790 electric cars worth around 1.2 billion dollars. The provider, which until now has specialised mainly in Tesla models, has ordered a total of 45 different vehicle models from 17 carmakers – including Tesla again.

UFODrive launches Tesla rentals in San Francisco

Europe’s electric car rental company UFODrive landed in San Francisco, making the city the first foray into the United States. Their US launch follows the company’s rapid growth in European cities, including London, Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Dublin, since its founding in 2018.

ALD to take over Leaseplan for nearly €5Bn

ALD Automotive, the leasing and mobility subsidiary of the major French bank Société Générale, has announced that it will take over its competitor Leaseplan for 4.9 billion euros. The joint venture NewALD is to grow primarily with e-mobility services.

Sixt announces its expansion in Australia through a franchise with the National Roads & Motorists’ Association (NRMA), the largest national automobile club. The cooperation will immediately give the German company a 13% market share and introduce one of the largest EV rental fleets in Australia.

Herz stocks up with 100,000 Teslas

The car rental company Hertz has ordered 100,000 electric cars from Tesla. These are to be delivered by the end of 2022. Customers will be able to rent the Tesla Model 3 at selected Hertz locations in the USA and Europe from the beginning of November this year.

Leasys to electrify short-term rentals by 2028

In Europe, the Stellantis subsidiary Leasys has presented its electric mobility strategy. Here, the company says the vehicle fleet for short-term rentals is to be completely converted to electric vehicles by the end of 2027 but has not said how large the share of electric vehicles in the total fleet will be.

The Swiss energy group Alpiq is now launching its electric mobility subscription service Juicar in Germany and Italy. Juicar has been on the market in Switzerland since August 2018. In Germany the subscription is now available nationwide in cooperation with the fleet operator Arval.

Austrian government sets out plan for cleaner transport

Austria aims to decarbonise its transport sector. The coalition of the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) and the Greens want public authorities to exclusively purchase zero-emission vehicles as early as 2022 and otherwise focus on subsidies for the electrification of official fleets, taxis, rental cars, car-sharing, public transport as well as private cars.

Electric car rental NextMove claims Tesla “service hell”

Nextmove is adding far fewer Tesla Model 3 to its fleet than planned. The company had ordered 100 Tesla Model 3 at the end of last year, but after problems with the delivery of the first models, the rental company cancelled a further order worth around five million euros.

Germany’s first self-service Tesla car rental station

Luxembourg-based start-up UFOdrive opened their first self-service rental car station in Germany. Drivers can now rent and collect one of six Tesla Model S at Hamburg Airport, simply via app. UFOdrives operates EV-only fleets in Luxembourg and Brussels as well.

UK: Plug-in Pledge to rapidly increase electric car fleet

A major surge in plug-in vehicles is to take Great Britain in storm as the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) launches the ‘Plug-in Pledge’. They aim to raise the number of plug-in vehicles in fleets from 50,000 today to 720,000 by 2025.

Renault enables termination of battery lease

Renault electric vehicle owners holding a lease for the battery of their Zoe or even Twizy may now end their contract and buy (or resell) the power pack instead. The move follows the option to buy batteries of Renault EVs that had been open for new owners and now applies retroactively.
