Taxi Xanh Sapa and Vietnamese EV maker VinFast have signed a deal, according to which the taxi company will replace its entire petrol-powered fleet with VinFast electric vehicles. The former will thus purchase 250 VinFast VF e34 and VF 5 Plus electric cars from VinFast and GSM in 2023 and 2024. Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) operates the country’s first all-electric taxi service in Hanoi and offers electric car rental services for traditional and online taxi service providers and their employees.

The first 30 vehicles will be delivered in the coming month. The deal comes after Taxi Xanh Sapa tested 20 VinFast VF 5 Plus cars for a month. The trial was so successful, also because of fuel savings and lower cost of operation, that it wants to expand operations to neighbouring provinces. The trail took place in Sa Pa town, Lao Cai province.

“GSM always welcomes and is ready to support transportation businesses such as Thanh Thuy MTV Company [the operator of Taxi Xanh Sapa] to contribute to the change in public transportation and greening Vietnam,” says Nguyen Van Thanh, General Director of GSM. “The presence of Sapa Green Taxi is also an opportunity to widely promote the SM Xanh brand and VinFast electric vehicles to domestic and foreign tourists, spreading the values of green and civilized living to the community.”

At the same time, GSM will continue expanding the SM Green brand to 27 provinces and cities across the country in 2023, with a scale of up to 20,000 taxis and 60,000 electric motorbikes.
