GSM kicks off Vietnam’s first electric taxi service

Since the end of last week, customers in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, can book the purely electric taxi service Green SM via a nationwide hotline or app. According to the operating company GSM, the service will expand to at least five provinces and cities this year.

Green SM is the country’s first all-electric taxi service. Customers can choose between two options: GreenCar and LuxuryCar. The former includes “VinFast VF e34 in the company’s signature Cyan blue colour.” Customers ordering the LuxuryCar option will travel in the VinFast VF 8.

“Electric taxis are among the advanced solutions that bring tremendous benefits to the community and contribute to reducing air and noise pollution while saving energy and costs for users,” says Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice President of the Hanoi People’s Committee. “The deployment of electric taxi services in Hanoi not only affirms the determination of the City and cooperation of business organizations, particularly the GSM company, in accelerating sustainable transport development; but also contributes to realizing Vietnam’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.”

The initial fleet in Hanoi includes 500 VF e34s and 100 VF 8s. And the company will add the VinFast VF 5 Plus model to the GreenCar fleet shortly. The fleet for both segments will grow depending on demand.

GSM stands for Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company and is a relatively new company. It was founded about a month ago by Vingroup Chairman Pham Nhat Vuong to promote green mobility by using VinFast electric cars and scooters for rental services.
