Geely launches first Galaxy BEV

Geely’s latest electric car brand, Galaxy, has started pre-sales of the first model in China. The purely electric Galaxy E8 is a 5-metre, coupé-style saloon with prices starting from 188,000 yuan, that is below 25,000 euros.

The price of approx. €24,300 or $26,350 makes the Galaxy E8 cheaper than the Zeekr 007 electric saloon, which costs at least 229,900 yuan (approx. €29,700). Zeekr is also part of the Geely Group, and both models share similarities.

Like the Zeekr 007, the Galaxy E8 will also utilise the fast-charging LFP batteries which Zeekr presented a few days ago. According to Zeekr, the ‘Golden Brick’ battery makes it possible to charge a range of 500 kilometres within 15 minutes.

Galaxy will offer two batteries with 62 kWh and 76 kWh, with the latter being good for 620 kilometres, according to company data.

The Galaxy E8 is powered by either a 200 kW motor on the rear axle or a 475 kW all-wheel drive system. It relies on the Geely Group’s SEA platform (400 Volt), like most Zeekr models. Only the Zeekr 007 has an 800-Volt architecture through the PMA2+, developed by Geely and Volvo.

Deliveries of the Galaxy E8 are scheduled to begin in January 2024.

Geely launched Galaxy as an outlet for premium electrified cars in February with plans for four long-range plug-in hybrids and three battery-electric vehicles. The first three models were to hit the road this year; the Galaxy E8 remains the only all-electric model. The PHEVs on offer include the Galaxy L6 sedan and L7 SUV. The PHEVs are based on Geely and Volvo’s E-CMA platform.
