BYD Europe relies on Arval for leasing

The Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with leasing solutions provider Arval in Europe. Arval will include BYD's electric vehicles in its range for private and business customers in Germany, Italy and Spain.

As part of the deal, Arval will also advise fleet operators on switching to EVs. In addition to the passenger car sector, the collaboration is also aimed at light commercial vehicles and energy solutions with battery and solar systems. Michael Shu, Managing Director of BYD Europe, and Arval CEO Alain Van Groenendael signed an agreement to this effect in China.

The cooperation also includes Arval Charging Services, which provides a wallbox and charging card for every leased electric vehicle on request. Telematics services such as Arval Connect allow fleet managers to view the daily mileage of the cars and the mileage per road type and trip and thus determine the right electric vehicle.

It is not Arval’s first partnership with a Chinese manufacturer. The subsidiary of the major French bank BNP Paribas is already a leasing partner of MG Motor, Aiways and Geely – in some cases across Europe, in others only in Germany.

“We are very proud to be partnering with BYD, a company focused on the EV shift and innovations, and add their vehicles to our portfolio to support BYD entering the European market,” says Van Groenendael. “In this complex yet dynamic market, I am convinced our joint forces will allow even more corporates and individuals to switch to full electric vehicles.” Michael Shu adds: “The combination of BYD cars utilising advanced innovation in EV technology and Arval’s scope and expertise in corporate and private customers leasing solutions creates a dynamic cooperation.”

Incidentally, a charging partnership between BYD and Shell subsidiary Raizen for the Brazilian market was also agreed upon at the same event at BYD’s headquarters in Shenzhen.
