Neta unveils new electric SUV Neta L

The Chinese EV brand Neta from Hozon Auto presented a new SUV model, the Neta L, which will initially launch as an electric car with an additional combustion engine as a range extender. Pure BEV variants of the Neta L will follow at a later date.

The Neta L is based on the Group’s own Shanhai platform, which supports the construction of purely electric models and electric vehicles with range extenders (EREVs). The five-seater mid-size SUV measures 4.7 x 1.9 x 1.6 m with a wheelbase of 2,810 mm. According to the CN EV Post, the Neta L has an electric range of 310 km according to the Chinese cycle thanks to a 40 kWh battery. The range extender provides further autonomy in the form of a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Equipment highlights include two large 15.6-inch screens and a refrigerator. Prices for the EREV version start at 129,900 yuan – the equivalent of around 16,800 euros.

Neta has four models on offer: two first-generation models, which are relatively small all-electric crossover SUVs called Neta X (formerly known as Neta U) and Neta Aya (formerly Neta V). In addition, there is the Neta S electric saloon (available as a BEV or EREV) and the associated all-electric coupé Neta GT, which are based on the aforementioned Shanhai platform. The Neta L is the first SUV to be built on the platform. Neta has also announced new models based on a further developed platform (“Shanhai 2.0“) for 2025.

At the same time, Neta has ambitious growth plans. According to information from the beginning of the year, the brand wants to expand to more than 50 countries and territories with its electric vehicles by 2024 and achieve export sales of 100,000 vehicles. In January 2023, it was announced that Neta will also use the skateboard platform from shareholder CATL – although it is not yet known whether this will only be the case in China or in all markets.

Neta recently began building a new factory in Malaysia to increase production capacity. The production facility in the state of Negeri Sembilan is scheduled to go into operation in 2025. There is no information on capacity as yet. Neta started EV production in Thailand at the end of 2023 and is currently building another plant outside China in Indonesia. Production there is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2024.

Neta delivered 127,496 vehicles in 2023, which corresponds to a year-on-year decline of 16.16 per cent, as reported by CN EV Post. The first few months of the new year also do not look like a turnaround, with the company selling 24,434 vehicles in the first quarter – 6.7 per cent fewer than in the previous year.
