Chery presents two electric models for export

Chinese car manufacturer Chery has unveiled two new models for export: the electric saloon Chery Exeed Exlantix ES and the plug-in hybrid SUV Omoda 7. Chery also recently announced that it will also manufacture cars in Europe - at the former Nissan plant in Barcelona.

As reported by Chinese media, the two models intended for export differ from the China models. That is particularly evident in the case of the Exeed Exlantix ES, which is sold in China as the Sterra ES. The most noticeable difference between the two variants is at the front. For example, the export model has a different headlight design and sportier hubcaps. It is not yet known which version of the Exeed Exlantix ES will be exported and which markets Chery will target first.

Technically, the Exeed Exlantix ES is based on the same platform as its sister model, the Luxeed S7 (from Huawei and Chery). The E0X platform supports 800 and 400-volt system architectures. The model measures 4,945 x 1,978 x 1,489 mm with a wheelbase of just three metres. Regarding the drive, the carmaker only published the specifications for the Chinese model. There are several battery options between 60.5 and 97.7 kWh and three drive versions – including two single-engine versions (185 or 230 kW) and an all-wheel drive version (230 kW + 123 kW). According to the Chinese test cycle, the range will be up to 905 kilometres. Chery puts the drag coefficient at 0.205 cW.

The second export model is the new Omoda 7 SUV, which has a maximum output of 115 kW. Omoda was initially the name of a single Chery model, but has since developed into an export brand under which Chery already offers vehicles in Russia and other countries of the former Soviet Union. The SUV with plug-in hybrid drive measures 4,621 x 1,872 x 1,673 mm and will have an electric range of 95 kilometres.

The latter is based on the same platform as the Omoda 5 EV – a slightly shorter SUV with an all-electric drive that will launch in Germany in the first half of 2024. It will be Chery’s first model to launch there. Last year, Chery announced it was coming to Europe – with several brands and drive types. While other Chinese car manufacturers focus purely on BEVs, Chery also wants to bring petrol and hybrid models to Germany. The Omoda 5, for example, will initially be a petrol model, but according to a report from last year, a plug-in hybrid is conceivable.
