DB Schenker expands fleet in Germany by 40 Volvo FM Electric trucks
In terms of technical specifications, the Volvo FM Electric trucks deliver up to 490 kW of power, coupled with up to 300 kilometres of range per battery charge. Charging takes up to 9.5 hours on an AC connection and can be done as quickly as 2.5 hours using a direct current.
As DB Schenker writes, this makes it “ideal for various needs in the collection and delivery of shipments within the groupage network.” Furthermore, according to the logistics company, this marks the first time that DB Schenker is introducing electric trucks with trailer capability in last-mile delivery in Germany. “This allows diesel vehicles with trailers to be replaced and significantly broadens the scope of electric vehicle applications,” the company wrote.
“By deploying an additional 40 electric Volvos for last-mile delivery, DB Schenker underlines its commitment to leading the transition to sustainable drive systems and strengthens its partnership with Volvo Trucks,” said Cyrille Bonjean, Executive Vice President of Land Transport at DB Schenker in Europe, adding, “We will be able to offer low-emission transport solutions to our customers across the country.”
This is not the company’s first time deploying electric trucks in general, however, as Renault was tasked with supplying electric trucks in France last summer. There was also an announcement that the logistics operator plans to purchase 100 eActros LongHaul trucks in early 2023. Volta Trucks has also been tasked with supplying a fleet of 1,500 electric trucks.
