Long Beach orders 30 electric buses from New Flyer
The buses will all be 40 feet long (approximately 12 metres), the press release specifies. The Xcelsior CHARGE NG is also available as a 60-foot-version (approximately 18 metres). According to New Flyer, a subsidiary of NFI Group (NFI), “this order is a valuable addition to New Flyer’s robust backlog in Q3 2024.” There is no information about when the buses will be delivered or the value of the contract.
LBT covers a service area of nearly 26,000 hectares just south of Los Angeles and is active in 14 cities. The transport provider says that all of its vehicles are powered by alternative fuels and that it wants to go all-electric by 2040.
“New Flyer has partnered with Long Beach Transit for nearly 30 years, delivering over 300 buses, and we are thrilled to continue this meaningful collaboration.” said Chris Stoddart, President, North American Bus and Coach, NFI. “This latest order showcases LBT’s commitment to innovative vehicles that leverage cutting-edge technologies for superior performance, furthering their transition to greener alternatives.”
At the same time, LBT announced “ts first-ever Battery-electric commuter bus, connecting Long Beach to UCLA’s campus and Westwood Village.” It was manufactured by RIDE, USA and is supposed to reduce commuter traffic on the 405 Interstate. it has two pick up locations in Long Beach, at the Long Beach Airport and Willow Station, and three drop-off locations in the UCLA/Westwood area.
