Zenobe secures €243 million for electrified public transport in Australasia
Zenobe’s current ‘turnkey’ electrification model comprises vehicle financing, charging infrastructure, battery replacement, depot electrification and fleet optimisation services within a single package. It now hopes to leverage its new financing platform to fund electric bus and commercial vehicle projects across the two countries, while helping operators overcome the high upfront costs associated with fleet electrification. “By raising debt centrally at scale, Zenobe can offer more competitive pricing to customers than would be possible through standalone project financing,” the company explained.
The new platform will launch with four operational ‘seed’ projects, including electric fleet depots in Leichhardt (AUS) and Dunedin, West Auckland, and Greater Wellington (NZ). Ultimately, it is expected to support over $400m AUD of investment for electrification across the two Pacific nations.
Gareth Ridge, Country Director, Australia and New Zealand at Zenobē, said: “This platform represents a major step forward for zero-emission transport in Australia and New Zealand. By combining proven operational projects with a strong pipeline into a single financing structure, we’re able to bring greater scale, certainty and cost efficiency to fleet electrification.”
He added: “With strong momentum already underway across both markets, this platform positions us to accelerate investment and play a leading role in decarbonising transport across the region.”
This marks a next big step for Zenobe’s ambitions in the region. Earlier this year, the company announced a $100m AUD investment in Australia with the goal of more than doubling the current number of 1000 electric trucks in the country by the end of the year.
