Windrose lands landmark US deal, enters South America
Chinese electric truck manufacturer Windrose has confirmed a major commercial milestone in the United States, signing a supply agreement with California-based zero-emissions freight platform Nevoya. The contract, valued at over 430 million yuan (approximately $60 million), marks Windrose’s largest single order in the US market and includes the delivery of several hundred R700 class 8 battery-electric long-haul semi tractors. Initial units are expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, with full deployment targeted for 2026.
To support the delivery process, Windrose has begun shipping knock-down kits to the US using its own electric trucks between warehouses and ports in Shanghai and Los Angeles. That the manufacturer would set up shop in the US (and in Europe) was announced last year, when founder and CEO Han Wen told media that the company was planning an assembly plant in the US state of Georgia.
But back to the order at hand: The first 50 trucks will feature 729 kWh battery packs and operate on an 800-volt architecture. Dual charging capabilities compatible with CCS1 and MCS standards allow a 60% charge in 35 minutes, enabling suitability for long-haul freight across diverse terrain.
The vehicles are planned for deployment across key U.S. freight corridors, including Interstate 10, Interstate 5, and Interstate 45. Charging infrastructure provider Terawatt will support the rollout along I-10, aligning with the Smart Freight Centre’s I-10 Corridor Electrification Coalition.
In a parallel development, Windrose has announced its expansion into South America through a new strategic partnership with Chilean logistics firm Trailerlogistics Sudamérica. The agreement will make Chile the fifth continent in Windrose’s global roadmap, following deployments in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania.
Trailerlogistics, headquartered in Santiago, will act as both a distributor and early customer, with plans to deploy up to 100 Windrose trucks by the end of 2026. The first units will arrive in Chile in Q3 2025 for pilot testing with Trailerlogistics and selected partners.
Trailerlogistics CEO Hernan Searle Ferrari said on LinkedIn: “I am completely convinced Chile is the perfect market to start with Windrose in South America. Apart from having totally open trade agreements with all international markets, Chile boast world-class highways and a unique geography; from the desert in the north, all the way south down to Antarctica, covering a total of 4000km. This will allow us to continue developing the dominance of our long-haul EV technology in all terrains”
