Australia Post trials Mercedes eVito electric vans

Australia Post has begun a pilot programme with 36 Mercedes-Benz eVito electric vans in metropolitan delivery operations. That expands the organisation’s fleet of over 5,000 electric vehicles and supports its target to reach Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The eVito vans will be deployed in metropolitan areas. Each van produces zero tailpipe emissions and will be powered by 100 per cent renewable electricity through Australia Post’s existing charging infrastructure. According to Australia Post, the trial represents the first time the organisation has tested electric vans at this scale and forms part of its broader strategy to decarbonise its logistics network.

The pilot builds on Australia Post’s existing base of more than 5,000 electric delivery vehicles, which currently includes electric three-wheelers and other light electric transport solutions. The company has set a target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 and is investing in technologies and infrastructure to transition its fleet and operations.

Australia Post will continue rolling out the vans over the coming months. The company is working closely with Mercedes-Benz to ensure driver training and operational support for the new vehicles, helping to smooth the transition within its delivery network.

According to Australia Post, the expansion of electric mobility across its fleet is essential to meeting both customer expectations and environmental goals. “The introduction of electric vans is an important milestone in our fleet electrification and decarbonisation strategy,” said Richard Pittard, Chief Sustainability Officer at Australia Post. “With more Australians shopping online than ever before, we’re delivering more parcels every day and we know we need to find more sustainable ways to do it.”
