Switch Mobility, which is a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, designed and engineered the EiV12 buses in India. They can carry up to 39 passengers, along with room for a wheelchair ramp and a range of safety features including CCTV, panic buttons, GPS tracking, and a fire detection system.

Depending on configuration, the EiV12’s floor-mounted LFP batteries have an energy storage capacity of 189-423kWh with a range of up to 314km on a full charge. Additionally, they feature a dual-gun CCS2 charging interface.

Onboard, the buses feature Switch iON, the company’s telematics platform which provides real-time vehicle health monitoring, intelligent transportation management, and refined fleet control capabilities.

Commenting on the deliveries, Switch Mobility’s Chief Commercial Officer RG Venkataraman said: “These Low Floor Electric City Buses, engineered with advanced global technology and manufactured with pride in India, will significantly enhance Delhi’s public transport ecosystem while contributing to cleaner air and improved quality of life for millions of commuters.”

The order for the buses came from Delhi’s Department of Transport, and they will eventually be deployed on public transport route across Delhi. The Delhi Government states this is part of its wider goal to maintain its position as the Indian city with the most electric buses.

The EiV12 is one of two new electric buses introduced by Switch Mobility in December 2024. The other model, the E1, is targeted at European markets. Weighing in at 10,775kg, it is the continent’s lightest widely available electric bus.
