Aito launches three electric cars on the global market

The Chinese brand Aito, owned by electronics group Huawei and car manufacturer Seres, presented its product range for the global market at the IAA. It consists of the SUV models Aito 5, Aito 7 and Aito 9. The vehicles are to be launched first in the Middle East.

Last year, Aito had already sought to make a big splash at the Paris Motor Show and came up with something special: the Aito 5, Aito 7 and Aito 9 models drove in convoy from Chongqing, China, to Paris – a journey of around 15,000 kilometres through twelve countries, which took the vehicles 38 days to complete. At that time, however, Aito did not reveal when and where it actually planned to launch outside China.

At the IAA in Munich, the joint venture between Huawei and Seres became more concrete: the aim is to offer customers a “new luxury” smart mobility experience. The first step will be in the Middle East. Specifically, Aito plans to establish a subsidiary in the United Arab Emirates in order to gradually launch its entire model range there. Aito also plans to establish a localised supply chain via a central warehouse in Dubai, which will enable “impressive weekly-order delivery speeds and instant after-sales parts support.”

Leon He, President of Seres Auto, said: “AITO is committed to becoming a glocal brand. Today, at IAA MOBILITY 2025, AITO is unveiling our truly globalized product lineup and setting a new strategic milestone in our globalization journey. This journey to define ‘new luxury’ in the intelligent era is backed by our cutting-edge technology, and remarkable success in China.”

Aito was founded in late 2021 by Huawei and Seres and is now part of the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), which Huawei has formed with various car manufacturers. In addition to Aito, the HIMA universe also includes Luxeed (with Chery), Stelato (with BAIC), Maextro (with JAC) and Shangje (with SAIC).

Aito’s first model was the M5 EV electric SUV, unveiled in September 2022, which, however, is not intended for the global market, possibly due to its age. This was followed by the Aito 5, Aito 7 and Aito 9 SUV family, which is now also to be launched in the Middle East. Aito says it wants to offer both fully electric vehicles and those with range extenders on the global market.

By the end of August 2025, Aito had already sold 770,000 units of its four models in China. The flagship SUV, the Aito 9, which was launched at the end of 2023 and has already sold more than 230,000 units, has been particularly successful. According to Aito, the model has been the best-selling car in the luxury car segment above 500,000 yuan (approx. £50,000) in China for 17 months.
