PMI Electro Mobility starts fulfilling 250-unit electric bus order in Mumbai

In the first batch of deliveries, PMI Electro Mobility handed over four electric buses to BEST. In a conversation with electrive.com after the first delivery, the company said that it aims to hand over the remaining 246 units by the end of 2026. It is supplying these electric buses under a GCC (Gross Cost Contract) model.

PMI Electro Mobility is using its 12-metre electric bus for the 250-unit order from BEST. The company offers it in three versions with different floor heights: 400 mm, 650 mm, and 900 mm, and BEST has specified the lowest configuration to ensure easy ingress and egress, especially for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers.

The 12-metre electric bus features 36 passenger seats, and while the manufacturer provides an option between a wheelchair space and three additional, foldable seats, BEST has opted for the former to better suit its role as a city bus. It has also specified air conditioning, considering Mumbai’s hot and humid climate.

A permanent magnet synchronous motor powers the 12-metre electric bus, and it sources energy from a 366.66 kWh LFP battery pack. On a full charge, this model can cover up to 250 km, which is sufficient for a city bus in Mumbai. BEST is using it on a 33.8-kilometre route between Oshiwara Depot and Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk (Museum) at intervals of 40 to 45 minutes. PMI Electro Mobility says more than 2,700 of its electric buses are plying in 31 cities across India.

Commenting on the first shipment to BEST as part of the major 250-unit order, CEO Dr. Aanchal Jain said, “This launch reflects the city’s strong commitment towards sustainable mobility, and we are proud to play a small role in supporting this journey.”
