Verge Motorcycles to offer modular platform for electric two wheelers

Verge Next, the unit of Verge Motorcycles specialising in solutions for other manufacturers, has unveiled a new platform for electric scooters. This is intended to make it easier for other manufacturers to bring electric two-wheelers to market at low cost and with as little development effort as possible. The Northern Europeans see this as their contribution to the electrification of road transport.

The first model to use Verge’s new technology platform will be on display at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan from November 4 to 9. At the heart of the modular system is the so-called “donut” motor, which has been specially tailored to smaller electric two-wheelers in a new version. They are available in different power levels depending on requirements. The spectrum ranges from two to 15 kW. In terms of torque, the 12-inch motor ranges from 80 to 350 Newton meters.

In addition to the electric powertrains, the modular system also includes battery modules, the associated control software, and displays for driving information. However, manufacturers do not have to opt for the entire package when developing and producing their models. If, for example, they only need the motor, they can select this component separately.

According to the supplier, the offer has been met with great interest in the industry: “We launched the Verge Next unit last spring and have already received dozens of inquiries from companies interested in using the devices and technologies we have developed. We have already started working with some partners, and some of our customers report that they will be integrating our solutions into their upcoming models in the near future,” says Tuomo Lehtimäki, CEO of Verge Motorcycles.
