The Chinese EV company Yutong has just delivered 400 battery electric buses to Pakistan. It's the largest single order of 'new energy' buses in the country to date.

Specifically, the buses have been delivered to Punjab Province, which is gradually rolling out the vehicles on public transport routes across 19 different cities and districts. The models delivered include the E12PRO and E9 buses.

Yutong states it has customised the buses in order to fit the “specific operating conditions” of Pakistan; this includes a Nitrogen Protection System for buses’ traction batteries to reduce the risk of cell fire in the summer heat, as well as a dual middle door design for the E12PRO models in order to increase the passenger flow and boarding efficiency. Yutong adds that the E12PRO “also adopts a differentiated seating layout with separate front and rear sections to balance passenger capacity with local habits”.

In terms of servicing, Yutong says it employs a team of 56 people, both Chinese and local, to provide a direct service model via 8 service outlets plus a mobile team. The company claims it has also provided more than 80 service training sessions to over 1000 participants in Pakistan.

In a statement, the electric bus company said: “The deployment of these 400 electric buses is expected to create over 1,500 direct and indirect jobs in fields such as driving, maintenance, and vehicle cleaning, further promoting local economic and social development.”

Bus service on Islamabad routes need to be looked into to overcome the terrible congestion on all roads esp during rush hours and school timings.

Good way of making quick bucks from kickbacks and commissions, I can bet in under 10 years they will disappear. Everyone in every department is trying to rob it. We saw buses in 1980s didn't last till 90s. Lots of Volvo Ford Fiat and Hino buses were bought.

Definitely will disappear but always have replacement. Transport is never for life. Let's b optimistic & avoid negativity even in good steps. It's national exchequer not personal & let common people should also enjoy good transport

Its true that the congestion is quite high on all routes across the city during the peak hours. Its a good suggestion to increase the number of buses on all routes in rush hour making it easier for the locals to travel to their school and offices.
