DHL Summit Solutions, Inc. (DSSI), the joint venture between DHL Supply Chain APAC and JG Summit Holdings, has inaugurated a substantial electric vehicle fleet in the Philippines. The initiative combines zero tailpipe-emission vehicles with high-efficiency prime movers equipped with smart routing and load-planning systems. DHL’s Connected Control Tower digital platform links these assets into a single operational ecosystem.

The company does not say which models it will deploy. A press image shows electric trucks from Chinese manufacturer Foton.

According to DSSI, the system also provides end-to-end visibility from order receipt to delivery, using real-time data, predictive maintenance and automated scheduling to increase utilisation, reduce downtime and improve reliability.

Maybe more importantly from an e-mobility standpoint, the fleet also offers operational advantages in congested city centres. Electric vehicles are allowed to run during cargo truck-ban hours in key urban zones, giving DHL Summit Solutions more flexibility to meet time-critical delivery windows, the company notes.

The deployment supports DHL Group’s plan to increase the share of electric vehicles in its first- and last-mile delivery fleet to more than 66 per cent by 2030 and to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Edwin Wong, CEO of DHL Supply Chain Southeast Asia and interim Managing Director of DHL Summit Solutions, said the partnership ‘raises the bar for sustainable logistics in the country while strengthening our ability to support customers with reliable and future-ready transport services.’

Alan Surposa, Chief Resource Officer at JG Summit Holdings, added that the investment ‘helps shape a cleaner, smart future for the Philippines,’ while Warren Bodley, Vice President of Transport at DHL Supply Chain Southeast Asia, said the new vehicles give teams ‘the tools to work smarter and safer.’
