Tesla deliveries decline by 9.1 percent in 2025

U.S. electric car manufacturer Tesla has experienced a decline in delivery figures for the second consecutive year. While the decrease in 2024 was still minor, it became significantly more pronounced in 2025: deliveries fell by 9.1 percent to 1,636,129 vehicles.

In short, Tesla delivered over 150,000 fewer vehicles in 2025 than in 2024, when the figure stood at 1,789,226 units. The 9.1 per cent decline compared to the previous year is somewhat less alarming when viewed alongside the figures for the fourth quarter of 2025: in the last three months, Tesla delivered 418,227 vehicles worldwide, which was 15.6 per cent fewer than in the same quarter of the previous year.

There are likely two main reasons for this decline: first, the controversial political activities of CEO Elon Musk, who spent several months in the first half of the year as a cost-cutting advisor to the Trump administration. His reputational damage as a supporter of Trump’s election campaign further exacerbated the situation. Second, the phasing out of the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicle purchases in the US at the end of September 2025 triggered a year-end rush in EV sales. This even secured Tesla a delivery record of 497,099 vehicles in the third quarter.

Tesla has now returned to reality and must acknowledge that the battery-electric vehicle market is becoming increasingly competitive. The once highly anticipated Cybertruck failed to gain traction, and aside from the Juniper facelift of the Model Y, Tesla introduced few new offerings last year. Meanwhile, competition is intensifying with an influx of new models from rivals, and the Trump administration in the US is actively seeking to suppress the growth of electromobility.

Turning to the figures: Tesla traditionally does not disclose exact delivery numbers for individual models. Instead, it groups the Model 3 and Model Y together as “Model 3/Y” and combines the remaining four vehicle types—Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Semi—under “other vehicles.”

For the full year 2024, Tesla delivered 1,704,093 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, alongside 85,133 “other” Teslas. In 2025, these figures fell to 1,585,279 Model 3/Y vehicles and 50,850 “other” vehicles. In summary, both the high-volume Model 3 and Y and the premium models—Model S, Model X, Cybertruck, and Semi—experienced declines.

The fourth quarter of 2025 followed a similar trend: Model 3/Y deliveries reached 406,585 units, while the other models accounted for just 11,642 units. In the fourth quarter of 2024, Tesla had delivered 471,930 Model 3/Y vehicles and 23,640 ‘other’ models. It is evident that the ‘other’ models did not even reach half of the previous year’s quarterly figures.

In addition to delivery figures, Tesla also reported its production numbers, which typically differ slightly due to factors such as the production of additional “stock vehicles,” discrepancies between production and delivery quarters, and other effects. In 2025, Tesla produced 1,600,767 Model 3/Y vehicles and 53,900 other vehicles, totalling 1,654,667 units. The previous year had seen a total of 1,773,443 units produced—a decline of 9.3 per cent.
