Lublin orders 20 trolleybuses from Solaris

Polish bus manufacturer Solaris has secured a major new order from its home country. Public transport operator MPK Lublin has ordered 20 new trolleybuses. These will complement the existing fleet of 120 emission-free buses in the major city in eastern Poland.

MPK Lublin has selected the Trollino 12, a 12-metre trolleybus model. Each vehicle can accommodate 80 passengers, including 29 seated. The buses will feature a comprehensive surveillance system covering both the interior and exterior. Passenger comfort is further enhanced by USB charging ports and a passenger counting system, which enables precise analysis of passenger flow. The buses are scheduled for delivery in the first few months of 2027.

In this eastern Polish city, 120 zero-emission buses from Solaris are already in service, including battery-electric buses, hydrogen buses, and trolleybuses. Of these, 80 are the Trollino 12 trolleybuses, which make up two-thirds of the zero-emission fleet.

“Lublin is now among the leaders of electromobility in Poland, and we are proud that our vehicles genuinely support this development,” said Agata Stańda, CEO of Solaris Bus & Coach. “Trolleybuses, together with electric and hydrogen buses, are one of the pathways to sustainable, environmentally friendly mobility in cities, and Solaris offers all these solutions, supporting the transformation of public transport across Europe.”

The ordered Solaris Trollino 12 trolleybuses will feature a traditional trolleybus drivetrain alongside on-board batteries, enabling operation beyond the trolleybus network. The batteries can be recharged while connected to the trolleybus infrastructure, increasing operational flexibility. This approach allows public transport operators to extend routes to new sections without requiring overhead lines.

In Germany, only three trolleybus systems remain in public transport: in Eberswalde, Esslingen, and Solingen. In all three cities, Solaris Trollino-series trolleybuses are in use.
