Nio launches sales of its electric cars in Hungary
In mid-2025, Nio announced plans to expand into eleven additional European countries, including Hungary. That expansion has now become a reality: the first sales and service location has opened in the capital, Budapest, and the first vehicle—a flagship SUV, the EL8—has been handed over to a customer.
Nio’s lineup in Hungary includes the mid-range saloon ET5, the estate model ET5 Touring, the mid-range SUV EL6, and the flagship SUV EL8. Additionally, the first model from the sub-brand Firefly, introduced last year, a compact premium electric car designed for urban mobility, will also be available. This selection differs slightly from the lineup in Germany, where the saloon ET7 and the SUV EL7 are also offered, but the Firefly is not yet available.
“Budapest’s automotive heritage, central location, and fast-growing EV ecosystem make this an important strategic move for NIO’s expansion across Central Europe. Huge thanks to our partner AutoWallis, our teams and everyone involved in making this launch a success,” said Nio CEO William Li.

The AutoWallis Group is a listed automotive trading group with a presence in 14 countries across Central and Eastern Europe. The company collaborates with numerous European brands such as BMW, Dacia, Mercedes-Benz, Opel, and Renault—and has recently strengthened its partnerships with Chinese manufacturers like BYD, Xpeng, and Geely’s commercial vehicle brand, Farizon.
Valér Vida, Managing Director of Nio AutoWallis, commented on the collaboration: “With the opening of the NIO AutoWallis showroom in Budapest, we are creating a central touchpoint for users in Hungary to experience the brand firsthand. Our focus is on delivering outstanding user experience, from initial consultation to long-term service and support. This location underlines the relevance of Budapest as a key market for premium electric mobility and as a cornerstone for NIO’s further growth in the region.”
Nio is also collaborating with AutoWallis in Poland, Romania, and the Czech Republic, where market launches are planned for 2026.
Until recently, Nio’s presence in Europe was still limited: the Chinese manufacturer’s electric cars were only available in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden until summer 2025. Since November, Nio also partnered with AutoWallis in Austria, but initially only as an importer, while local dealers handle distribution. Nio is now also present in Greece, including its sub-brand Firefly.
