Lexus discontinues UX 300e electric SUV
The Lexus UX 300e was the first battery-electric vehicle from the premium brand under the Toyota Group. This compact electric crossover is based on the identically named hybrid model and was launched in various countries in 2020 or 2021. Initially, it featured a 54.3 kWh battery, but in 2022, it received an upgrade to a 72.8 kWh battery, enabling a range of around 450 kilometres under the WLTP standard. However, the Lexus UX 300e remained something of an outlier due to its reliance on DC charging via CHAdeMO, as most markets have adopted CCS1, CCS2, or Tesla’s NACS as the fast-charging standard, with infrastructure expansion prioritising these technologies.
As the British portal Auto Express now reports, the all-electric UX 300e has disappeared from Lexus UK’s online configurator, while the visually identical UX 300h with its hybrid powertrain remains available. Upon enquiry, a Lexus UK spokesperson confirmed that the electric UX was ‘discontinued at the end of 2023,’ without providing a reason—though poor sales figures are the most likely cause.
Following this report, we checked several Lexus country websites as examples. Sure enough, in Germany, France, the UK, and the USA—key markets—the UX is now only available with a hybrid powertrain. Lexus Germany lists the UX 300h from €45,200, while the ‘F Sport’ version with the same powertrain can cost up to €63,100. In France, the hybrid UX starts at €45,000, and in the USA, the price is $38,250—though this is a net price.
The battery-electric UX has not completely disappeared from the market, however: in Norway, the UX 300e is still offered, at least as the Edition35. In this configuration, Lexus Norway charges 405,000 NOK, equivalent to approximately €36,100.
