VinBus has replaced internal combustion engine buses on nine routes in Ho Chi Minh City using a combination of the VinFast EB 6 and VinFast EB 8 electric models. It says the compact design of these e-buses makes them easy to manoeuvre through central corridors such as Ben Thanh, Le Hong Phong and Go Vap, as well as congested neighbourhoods such as An Thoi Dong and Ba Xan Junction.

The EB 6 is a small electric bus measuring 6.2m in length, 2.2m in width and 2.9m in height. It accommodates up to 29 passengers, including eleven seated passengers, one in a wheelchair space and 17 standing. Under full load, it offers a ground clearance of 18cm.

VinFast equips the EB 6 with a single motor producing 140 kW and 420 Nm of torque, and a 179.5 kWh LFP battery pack. This setup gives the six-metre electric bus a top speed of 90 km/h and a range of up to 340 kilometres. Its battery pack supports charging at up to 120 kW, and at that rate, a 20–80% session takes 70 minutes.

The EB 8 is 8.61m long, 2.47m wide and 3.22m tall, with a 4.85m wheelbase. It accommodates up to 60 passengers, with 24 seats, a 1.3m x 75cm wheelchair space and 35 standing places. VinFast uses a centrally mounted 200 kW motor that provides a top speed of 80 km/h, and a 359 kWh LFP battery pack that delivers a range of over 290 kilometres in this model. Sourced from Gotion, this battery pack also supports charging at up to 120 kW.

VinBus has specified all 169 electric buses with Wi-Fi, USB ports, a security camera system and a journey information display. The company also allows passengers to track their journey through the Xanh SM mobile app.

Previously, VinBus replaced 58 ICE buses with electric ones on two routes in Ho Chi Minh City. The company’s expanding electric bus fleet is bringing the city closer to its goal of converting all public transport buses to electric or other low-emission models.

“The complete conversion of 9 bus routes to electric buses provides Ho Chi Minh City residents with more convenient, safe, and comfortable transportation options, while also contributing to accelerating the greening of the city’s public transportation system,” said VinBus General Director Nguyen Cong Nhat.
